    Here is what these adapters look like. Unfortunately the active unit is completely sealed, making it impossible to learn what's inside without destroying it.

    Note that two of the four 'holes' have rounded or D shaped contours, the other two holes have square shrouds.

    The ATX connector clip fits into the slot molded into the special Weber MSX interface module.

    This looks SO complex to perform a simple operation. It's almost like putting four deadbolts on your front door! Makes it a pain in the ass to open. And if they lose their keys.......

    I have found a USB to RS232 cable that works acceptably with these cables, its a "Sabrent CB-FTDI" cable, with an FTDI chipset, part number CB-FTDI. It doesn't work flawlessly in that it has intermittent dropped connection issues, but it works well enough. I got it for about $12 on ebay.

    (I tried a prolific chipset previously, that didn't work for me).
