Snowmobiles
Since its getting close to winter and there's almost a foot of snow on the ground by my cottage I was wondering if anybody rides snowmobiles here? What type of snowmobile? Make/model? Any mods? And whats the top speed?
I've got a 1997 Yamaha vMax 600. Topped out at 104mph last winter, no mods. My friend has a triple piped Polaris, not sure of the model and year, but he claims it does a little over 130mph.

I ride an MXZ800. Actually I'm in the process of putting on a Goodwin clutch kit and studs. I use this machine to compare all my other toys to when considering acceleration, kind of like a reference point. Other toys include BB 66Chevelle, 05 Mercedes E-55, and of course 05 RXP. Each toy has it's own power band and sweet spot, but the MXZ is incredible out of the hole, and can make your face flat anytime you goose it. I can't wait to try it with the studs and clutch kit. Acceleration is soooooo addicting! It also helps me get through the winter until I can use the RXP again.

By the way Hulk, the reason the're so fast is because of the incredible surface area the track has with the ground, and because how light they are. They have more driven surface area connecting with the ground then cars do, and have up to 150hp. Friction is also much less because the snow acts sas a lubricant for the skis. Unbelievable acceleration and top end. If it were possible to get RXP HP on a snowmobile I am sure you would run out of courage before you would run out of HP!

The 4tec is in the Elite. It is not a big seller.
I am told that if you put in too many studs you will lose top end.

I got a 99' SummitX, made for mountain climbing in the back country.
It is a 670 CC motor with some super secret mods on it and a few clutch and gearing mods.
151" track with 2" lugs. The suspension has been relocated for a better angle of attack.
It can master 5' of powder with the best of them.
We have a crew that has been going to the mountains of Idaho for the last 15 years.
It is great fun (sort of like mudbug for snowmobiles)...........
I am getting a snowhawk this winter. It is like a moto cross bike on snow (www.adboivin.com)
I can't wait to get it. It will be a totally new experience.
Jerry, you got to book a plane ticket to Idaho for one of our trips. You would shit your pants on some of the mountains we climb.
Gotta wear an avalanche beacon and be able to use it.
Great fun!
