No it does not matter. I know the aftermarket ones are not set up exactly the same with the wiring positions

Do a YouTube search for 96 xp bad rectifier. It is identical to your problem. It's common
Double this. I'm having the same problem at the moment.

My '97 GTX will run perfectly for about 20 seconds (In or out of water), then start cutting out at 2200 RPM (Making the exact same sound yours does). Unplugging the red wire to the rectifier fixes the problem (Until your battery goes dead).

UGHHHHHH...... I changed my rectifier, brand new of course. I cut back my spark plug wires for a fresh end and put brand new caps on. Yes they are the right caps. Now when I start my seadoo it sounds like it's revving so fast the engine is going to blow and I have to shut it off. Can anyone help me ASAP I wanted to use it today..

Did you adjust your idle screw by chance? Should rev around 1500 out of water.

Sorry I'm the biggest idiot ever, I had my fuel shutoff turned to "off". Starving of fuel, too much oxygen to fuel ratio I assume. I opened it and it runs ok. Going to hit the water now and see if the other issue is resolved.

Yep my issue is fixed as well! Ran the seadoo about 3-4 times since I replaced it and the issue is now gone. Thanks all for your help.
