Yamaha Waveraider Steering Column Snapped!! With Video!!
Hey guys first post here
Just got this 95 Waveraider 701
(The light hull) that's been stored under a roof near the ocean for 15 years!! Picked it up for 200 bucks with a bad steering cable and in need of a carb rebuild & removal of 15 year old gas! Well the good news was once I did everything it worked perfect and GPS at 53.6 with 230 pounds on top
but then this happens!!
Steering column snapped and I ate the water hard!
Well now I need you guys help.. I picked up this Spring loaded steering column but I don't have any info on it??
heres a pic below please let me know if this was a good buy or not?

Wow. That's a new one for me. You ok? I've never heard of a steering column snapping and I've never heard of a spring loaded column. Hopefully someone else will chime in with some more useful knowledge.

I have noticed with both raiders I own the bolts under the hood that secure the column assy tend to get loose over time. Be sure to use new lock washers and blue locate on the bolts.

Glad you are ok. Wiping out on a Raider at high speeds can be detrimental to one's health. "...that's been stored under a roof near the ocean for 15 years". That could explain the horrid shape of the steering column and what looks to be a separation and snappage. Down here in South Florida 15 years stored near the ocean explains corrosion. Good luck with the repairs.
