Total rebuild necessary, 2002 Virage TXi
So after putting all new jet pump parts in this friday. I took the thing out for a ride yesterday and it ran so good. Today it ran great for about 3 min and then it just stopped. The motor locked up. Took the plugs out and still couldn't spin it. So yanked the motor and tore it down. The outermost main bearing took a shit. Luckily tho, I believe the crank is fine. There wasnt any evidence that it was oil issues. It just went suddenly. One issue that does bother me is that one cylinder furthest from the oilpump looked in very very poor shape. To the point that im replacing it. Why would this happen? I know its normal for this one to be more starved then the first two, but not this much. I will have a full gallery of pictures to show u guys. One thing I couldnt find tho is replacement main bearings and rod bearings for the crank.

Which bearing failed? PTO end or MAG end or one in the middle?
The crankshaft and connecting rod bearings cannot be changed without breaking down the entire crankshaft with a 25 ton press. The crank is pressed together. The main bearings include replacement crank pins. Only the very end bearings can be changed without taking the crankshaft apart.
Does the failed cylinder look like oil starvation or some other cause?

The failed cylinder is def a starvation problem. It even felt dry. Plus the heat signature of it. Scarring big time as well. The bearing is the first bearing. Mag side.

So the PTO cylinder failed, apparently due to oil starvation and the MAG crankshaft bearing right behind the flywheel failed, correct?
Check the oil feed nipples at each cylinder. There may be (working from memory) a check valve in each oil feed nipple. If it gets stuck closed then no oil to that cylinder.
Also check the small oil hoses for kinks, cracks or damage.
The MAG end crank bearing on the 1200 engine is under stress, enough that the MSX 140 1192cc variant was designed with an additional oil passage added to directly feed the front crank bearing right behind the flywheel. The MSX 140 oil pump has four outlets instead of the three on the red 1200 engine.Last edited by K447; 05-26-2014 at 07:58 PM.

Am I able to run a oil pump from the mx140? Drill and tap an oil port in the block?
