Porting heads on RXP
I have been away from the board for a while and now the ski up for the winter i was looking into some more mods. i hear of some guys getting their heads ported, This may sond dum but what and how is this done and what gains come out of it? Is it worth it and if so what other mods do you need to have to take full advantage of it?

Porting the heads is the process of grinding the runners and making them larger. Ported heads flow better giving performance gains. You need at a minimum a Racing ECU to take advantage of the higher rev limit and I would also recommend the racing cam, lightweight valve spring retainers, lightweight camshaft sprocket and while you are at it throw some bigger valves in the mix

Will it be just simpler to order a new head or rework the stock one. I dont have the RR ECU so is that a must??? What is the price on the new ECU I have been away for a while and have lost out on alot of info. The last time I had my ski out was durring labor day and It was running @72 on gps.

Yep, the ECU is a must. I think they run about $1300-$1400 now.
It is much cheaper to have your head ported vs. buying a new head.

Jr. the latest version of the ECU has 10 more horsepower.
To have the head ported and bigger valves installed is around $1500
Racing cam is $1250

Jerry i guess if you're having the head ported you might as well go ahead and put bigger valves in right? Did you say Mark did your head? If i had the head done with the oversize valves i think i would rather have Mark do it because i don't think many machine shops around here have done seadoo stuff. Say i had everything done up to the point that the headwork and cam is the next step. We should be talking about some serious gains right? I mean thats a lot of dough going into a critical part of the whole horsepower equation.
