Taking a pee - Installing an external water cooling pisser for the EMM on the MSX 140
Can anyone advise if i can somehow make a pisser for my polaris msx 140, just so i can see my cooling isnt blocked.
has it been done before.
is there anywhere else the water needs to go after the emm as i was thinking of either disconnecting the exit end of the emm and direct it to some pissers i will fit....or somehow tee off of the emm cooling exit pipe into some pissers and leave the main pipe connected too.
also any suggestions on where best to fit the pissers will be helpful too.

How to install an external water exit pisser for the MSX 140 Ficht EMM
I have installed a hull water exit for the EMM flow on my MSX 140.
Here is the pisser installed on the right side of the MSX 140.
From the inside, before I drilled the mounting hole through from the outside, there is a gap between the black foam and the upper deck.
The pisser I used is this one from Watcon, or one quite similar.
The 90 degree exit runs alongside the hull, angled slightly downwards. I can easily see it, yet it does not 'spray' into the fast moving air.
The tricky part is getting the hose expanded to fit over the inside nipple, after installing the retaining nut on the inside of the hull. Going from memory, I probably applied some Loctite to the threads when tightening the nut.
I would have used a heat gun to soften the 1/4 inch reinforced fuel hose to fit onto the 3/8 fitting, then a hose clamp to hold it secure. Since this is a hard location to get to inside the hull, you do not want this installation to loosen up with vibration or time.
Important: Be sure to properly cap the old EMM water exit at the exhaust hull fitting. I unscrewed the hose barb from the exhaust fitting, then capped it off with a 1/4" MIP brass plumbing plug. This fitting is below water level, so if it starts leaking you could sink.
I actually prefer the type with a recessed hex socket so I can use an Allen key wrench or socket drive, but the last one I actually installed I happened to have the square head type on hand.Last edited by K447; 10-21-2013 at 03:55 PM.

I used an oscillating blade Dremel tool to trim the black foam away.
Another option would be to use a Weller hot wire soldering gun to cut the foam.
Note that this modified water routing creates a low spot in the water hose at the EMM. If you need to winterize before off-season storage, plan how you will remove that water.
I store this machine in a heated area, but an application of compressed air to the outside pisser could be used to dry out the EMM cooling loop.Last edited by K447; 08-27-2013 at 05:28 PM.

The engine was fully warmed up. At idle the water pressure and flow through the EMM is quite modest as the thermostat is probably fully open.
As engine RPM increases the water pressure from the jet pump into the cooling system increases significantly.
Interestingly, the water temperature out of the EMM is cooler during extended idling and increases when the engine is working hard. I attribute this to the heat from the engine's flywheel/stator cover water jacket. Cooling water first flows through the stator cover, then through the EMM. When I slow down to idle after riding, the EMM exit water feels quite warm. A minute later it is cooler.
Edit: Now I am not so sure where the increase on heat is coming from.
Might be heat from the EMM itself working harder as engine RPM rises. Perhaps some day I will put a temperature sensor on the water feeds hose into the EMM and see what it says.Last edited by K447; 05-10-2014 at 01:15 PM.

Cheers, so to get the water from the loop in the hose from the emm exit, i will have to blow compressed air through the new pisser?
Is this safe to do? Will the water just get blown back through the grate?

The standard winterization process for all Polaris Ficht engines is to raise the front of the watercraft 20 degrees or more, which allows the water to fully drain out of the cooling system. Normally this is done by raising the front of the trailer. On a stock Ficht machine, this self draining is all that is needed, no anti-freeze or special draining methods required.
With this pisser modification, while the hull is level, apply some compressed air to the pisser from the outside. The water will be blown back into the lower portion of the cooling system, from which it will promptly drain out due to the hull angle when you raise the front. It only takes maybe a couple of minutes for all the residual water to drain out.
It should not take a huge amount of air pressure, just a good blast or two using a rubber tipped air nozzle into the pisser.
The cooling system will drain mostly back out through the jet pump inlet screen and out the jet nozzle. Some water may drain out the water exit from the thermostat housing.

For those without the pisser, a good way to clear out the water is to remove the line from the stator cover to the EMM at the EMM and blow it out with compressed air. Achieves the same effect.

Cheers, were do i find the correct process for winterising my msx 140 does anyone have the booklet available to send me?
Also is there any booklets or info available for the correct maintenance i need to do?
As i do want to maintain the oil pump etc but dont know how to.
