UMI Finger Throttle on Stock Handlebars
UMI Finger Throttle on Stock Handlebars
The Seadoo Cable Adapter was needed along with the UMI Finger Throttle.
Handlebar extensions had to be installed.
Handle grip was removed.
Chrome plastic piece was removed. (Removed Philips screw from bottom, pulled up from bottom and it popped off.)
Disconnected cable end from plastic lever.
Removed cable out from the stop.
Remove the setscrew (allen) from the bottom of the black triangular end cap.
Moved end cap to the right and feed the throttle cable back out to the left
Thumb lever was removed from end cap. Plastic rivets are used later to plug holes.
The UMI lever needed to be modified. It would not go WOT without modifying it.
Took the c-clip off the UMI lever and remove the pin.
Put the lever between 2 boards in a vice (so it wouldn’t scratch) the side where the cable feeds out is facing upwards.
Using a solder gun I filled in the cable slot all the way up to where the cable comes straight out of the lever. After filling in the slot with solder, the solder needed to be filed smooth so that when both pieces were put together they fit flush
A grove was cut in the triangular end cap and also in the handlebar cover to get the cable to feed out the front side straight as possible
The assembled modified UMI lever was installed then the handlegrip was put back on.
Adjusted the slack out of the throttle cable using the adjusters on both ends making sure that both idle and W.O.T. were ok.
At WOT the lever is about 1/8” off of the grip.
I put the 2 black rivets from the stock lever back into the holes and glued them in place.
Thought about welding it but the solder is softer less wear on the cable. 60 hours on it and still works great! No wear on the cable either. I also make sure it’s greased.
I AM ONLY TELLING YOU WHAT I DID TO GET IT TO WORK. ANYTIME THROTTLE MODIFICATIONS ARE DONE THERE IS ALWAYS A RISK INVOLVED.

thats good info. i ordered umi bars, finger throttle, adapter kit, and grips from rich last week. hopefully i wont have to do any modifications to the lever like you did. i am wondering why you had to modify the lever, is it because you are using the stock handlebar assembly?

i fitted a umi finger throttle to my rxp stock steering
did not bother with the extension kit just took the handlebars off and had them extended a couple of inches either side then had them all powder coated
and they work great

What is the reason to make the bars longer? I hear I'll also need a new storage cover since the one I have would not fit over the wider bars.

Did you have to modify it to get full pull?

I was thinking about buying this one along with the cable adapter.
Does anyone know if I will need to modify it at all?

Can't hurt to ask.
