Having been spoiled by my still oil injected sltx this summer and being forced to buy more expensive oil. (Quicksilver pwc syn-blend is now discontinued) I just ordered an oil pump and lines for the 900, it's goin back to oil injection.

Alright, spring is here kinda...... it's michigan so it could snow tomorrow still lol. Jetski fever has once again set in and I have been busy. Last month I picked up a 95 shoreland'r double trailer and restored it. New stainless hardware, bunks and center plank with new carpet. Jack, all new wiring and submersible led lights all around and new tires. Trailer came with a free 96 waveraider 1100 with a locked up engine. Made some of my money back selling the ski.

Tonight I just finished up the 900. I put the 91 octane chopper city domes on (finally) installed the oil injection pump and ran new lines to the carbs and oil tank with a new filter. Got the cable hooked up and adjusted. Bought some gasket sheet and made my own water rail gaskets. Forgot to bring any oil with me so I took a trip to the local walmart and they did not stock it. Out of the three I normally go to only one stocks it and it is my least favorite due to location. Found my battery maintainer eyelet leads and installed those so now I can just plug into the lead to maintain the battery rather than unhooking the 2 straps that secure the electrical box on top of the battery to get to it.

After the initial teardown I sent a pic of the piston wash to bryan. He told me the pto cyl looks a little lean. I agree. Went up one main jet size from 135 to 138 and replaced the carb base gaskets.

Picked up 2 gallons of oil the other day, filled oil tank and bled air from pump. Fired it up and manually raised the pump lever by hand to prime the lines faster to the carbs. Took about 5 times only running it for 15-20 seconds each time with long cool down periods due to being out of water and not on a hose.

Had a vacu hold start separating from the cover on the 900. I re-sewed it by hand using 50 pound test spider wire.

Tomorrow I get to play musical skis, sltx is at my moms, 900 at my brothers. Time to swap, would not be necessary if I had my own garage to keep my toys in :/

Finally made it out for the first time this season! Ski ran good, no issues except I'm down rpm's from last years 64-6500 rpm. Today I only hit 6250 so I think the new 91 octane domes need to be cut. Will pull it apart tomorrow and swap the stock domes back on for now. Oh well, can't win em all......

I swapped the stock domes back on and did not regain the lost rpm's. Next step is to put the stock 135 main jet back in pto carb and run it again. If that doesn't do it then it goes back to 138 main jet and it must be the added drag of spinning the oil pump as that's the only other thing that has changed. I won't be going back to premix just to chase a couple hundred rpm's, not an option.

Engine has over 80 hours since I got the ski so this winter i'll pull it and replace crank seals.

    Weather/temp/humidity changes?

Somehow I doubt that the oil pump takes much horsepower to spin. I expect it would get rather hot if the pumping losses were that much

I agree the pump should not be the cause, the weather was nice just like any other day I would ride. Hopefully it's the jet change. We shall see maybe this weekend.

The jet change would not loose that many rpm's nor would the oil pump cause it to loose any ... If you made no other changes than going up a bit on the main, then I would be looking into a possible carb issue... The heads should have made you gain a few rpm's, does your return side have fuel returning? Does it gain rpm slower, does it hold the rpm steady at 6200 or does it go higher then drop down? Is your choke open completely and are your carbs opening all the way? If nothing else has changed, also make sure your exhaust hose is not spungy... But if all you did is a head change and up only from 135 to 138 you should look further into the carbs !!! Is it this years fresh gas ? Just some things to think about ... Love the red on that boat !!! Looks sweet

Has stock domes back on it now, made no difference.

Accel is great gets to 6250 and just holds steady.

    Exhaust hose is good.

Carbs had a thorough cleaning last year when I put the carbontech lt reeds in it, popoff's were right on. Just a little debris on each if the internal screens was all I found. All passages cleared with carb cleaner, diaphragms all in good shape as well as gaskets. Needles and seats in great shape. I only put maybe 5-6 hours on it after that then the pump tunnel cracked so I repaired that and rode it once more to verify the repair. It was done for the season after that.

Last fillup each year I use marine sta-bil fuel stabilizer, store it in a garage that never goes below 50 degrees and it gets started on the trailer every 2 weeks in the off season to smell the 2 stroke and to piss off the neighbors of my moms condominium complex.

This year drained the tank of all but maybe 2 gallons of premix when I installed the oil pump then topped off with straight premium after the carbs were getting oil from the pump. Ran that tank down to 1/4 and filled up again.

I did have the carbs off to replace the base gaskets so I will double check the choke and throttle butterflies and check for flow at fuel return. Make sure pulse lines are clear. Pull the pump and make sure I don't possibly have a bearing going bad. It has ran flawless for the last 3 years I've had it with only a few issues which have all been documented in this thread so I really can't complain and as always I appreciate the feedback and suggestions.

EDIT- Forgot to say that both times swapping main jet in pto carb I did not see anything strange in the jet block, no debris or loose parts etc...
