Years later, there is still alot of confusion over this matter. It is VERY simple, and anyone can install a RR ECU on their own with no dealer support or anything.

2004 Model RXPs.... there was a service bulletin to update 04 RXPs with a recalibration of the knock sensor. This was accomplished by updating the ECU AND installing a piggy back harness with resistors in it.

Are you unsure if you have the updated knock sensor or not on your 2004 RXP? review the pictures below to see where it is and what it looks like.

Again, this is ONLY ONLY ONLY for 2004 models/wiring harnesses this information. Put another way, if you dont have a 2004 model/wiring harness, DISREGARD this post!!

with a stock ECU.... you NEED!!!! to have the piggy back harness instaled.

with a Rotax Racing 4501 RACING ECU, you need to REMOVE this harness.

with a Rotax Racing stock class ECU, you need to have the harness installed.

IF removing it, simply disconnec the jumper and plug in the remaining plug integrated on the harness.

    Any questions, let me know.

This will prove very useful...as I have a RR Racing ECU to install on a 'virgin' ECU 05 RXP...

What would have happened had I plugged the RR Racing into the harness without removing the necessary 'bulge'...?

If I ever wanted to use a Riva ECU...would I have to put a knock sensor back in harness...or install the piggyback sensor....?

ur ski would run like a bag-o-chit

on a 05 ski.... u remove that bulge and splice the wires together with some extra wire... in the event u go back to stock or riva or something, then you will want to purchase a piggy back update harness.. then it's just PLug and play rather than worrying about splicing wires and whatnot.

pay attention to what year wiring harness is in your ski, pay attention to what version RR ECU you have, stock class or racing, and see what flashed curve it is ifit has knock control or not.

Arny... on ur ECU (which did u get yet? today perhaps u should have it?) ... u need to remove the bulge and u'll be fine.

Have not recieved it yet...expect it today...I am fortunate it had not come in yet because I knew NOTHING about removing that bulge...I thought it was plug and play and would have been very confused with a poor performing ski...thanks Shib!!!

If you have an 04 RXP you must have the knock sensor piggy back harness removed.

For 05 skis you must manually remove the resistor that was made into the wiring harness.

    06 skis you do nothing.
How about 03GTX wiring harness with 06 215engine?
