2001 GTX DI help
Hey there, I recently got a really good deal on a GTX DI, I mean under 1k, however it obviously came with a few problems for that price. What the owner told me was that it would keep going into limp mode and the info gauge was out. Got my hands in it and found more problems, wear ring was torn, got that replaced, voltage regulator was bad, putting 17 volts into the battery, changed that too, oil tank was leaking, got that patched up too. Now the bad part, when I pulled the pump I noticed the driveshaft have the splines a little worn out, not paying much attention, just changed the wear ring and put it in the water. Got it off the trailer and it wouldn't move anywhere, the engine revs but ski doesn't get propulsion. Got it back home, pulled pump again, changed the drive shaft, and same thing happened again. I then notice that the impeller splines are completely done. I got an impeller removal tool and tried taking the impeller off but the tool cant even get a grip on the splines. Where can i go from here? My friend that works in an auto shop was going to weld the tool to the impller. and the try and get it off... if that doesn't work I'm out of ideas, a new pump i pretty expensive too. Thanks

Yes, pump will be the same. Welding the tool to the bad impeller should do the trick, then just grind the welds down to get the tool back.

Or maybe just weld a big nut on it and save the tool from the damage.

As far as that goes you could just weld a scrap piece of pipe right to the front of it and then you'll have a nice handle for leverage.

Thanks for all the responses, the welding trick worked and I have another impeller on its way. Hopefully no more problems come up with the boat.

I trust you replaced the oil tank..patching the tank only leads to a mess as not much stuff will even begin to stay stuck and the problem was bad electric welding on the seams. newer tanks seem to have resolved that problem.
With synthetic oil being so pricey, $100+ time spent for a new oil tank isn't that far of a stretch
