New to NorCal

Hi,

I'm gonna be relocating to the Sacramento/Folsom area soon and looking to meet up with some local riders. I know this time of year isn't the best for riding but looking for some good riding spots in a couple months. I'm hoping to eventually make it to the ocean but for now I'm happy to ride the lakes or rivers. I'm moving from Southeastern Michigan and I'm use to riding the great lakes. It will be awhile before I get my GPR on the water anyway, doing a full rebuild on it from paint to big bore 1390. Looking forward to meeting up with some great people.

I live in Sacramento. I will tell you this...the California Delta is some of the best riding west of the Mississippi. We do rides all the time.

Food for thought: The California Delta is the largest inland estuary in the Northern Hemisphere and the largest estuary on the West Coast of the Americas. Over 1,100 miles of endless maze like (fresh water) waterways. Here is some video from the 6th Annual West Coast Freedom Ride:

Holland Tract on the Delta


In the spring of 1772, Spanish adventurers Pedro Fages and Father Juan Crespi climbed to the summit of 3,850-foot Mt. Diablo. What they saw to the East was what appeared to be a huge Inland Sea. The area was inundated with spring run off and there not being any man made levees most of the land was under water. They later traveled to the area near the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers near where Antioch is located today.

Awesome! I'm looking forward to riding and exploring the delta. I'm glad its freshwater, I'm a little hesitant about riding in saltwater yet since I have yet to learn about saltwater care for my ski.

I had no idea there was that much fresh water to ride in Cali as far as a "delta". It be nice to finally get California added to my site to share the trail riding info... Those top two pix look like they could come from anywhere in the gulf south.

They steal so much water out of the delta I am surprise it hasn't dry up.

The Delta never dries up. It can't. Farmers pull there water from there. Too much water/snow pack. Many rivers take water out of the mountains and flows directly into the Delta. It goes out to the SF Bay. If there was no water coming from the mountains then it would come inland from the Pacific Ocean being that is all at or below sea level.

What temperature is the water in the Delta around June or July? I'd imagine it would be kinda cold since it's mountain runoff. Either way I'm looking forward to it.
