Ben's Performance 100 MPH Plus Conversion GPR-SHO
It's been a while since I have posted a project. It's been 7 years since I first bought my GP1200R after some crazy guy name Fernando talked me into buying one. Riding his 78 mph GPR at MudBug 1 got me hooked. Since then I have owned over 25 GPR's. Most of them were sold to friends and customers after some magic was performed on them. There all gone now, including my dear friend, but for some reason I kept my first GPR. It was the test mule, with so many engine combo's it would make your head spin. Single pipe, tripe pipe, 1200, 1300, 1390, 1500cc motor's. 3mm, 4mm, 5mm stroker crank's in carbs and EFI setup's. So it's only fitting now to use it with my GPR-SHO project. I'm a little backwards when it comes to build threads.
I don't post anything until they are own the water and running. This one is complete. But maybe not finished.
As the man would say, there is always more testing to be done.
Enjoy

First, I wanted to thank two people for helping make this project very easy. Keith Salles and Brad Mattei. Some of you already know that Keith's ski went 96mph last year and then he wanted to go faster so he is building a full blown turbo setup. After a little arm bending I was able to get his old setup for my build. It included his Stage 3 V-Tech ECU, supercharger, intercooler, injectors, Solas Prop, waterbox and some of the hoses including the fuel regulator setup. I loved the setup and it allowed for some addition mods to be added in the future. I knew that his hull setup and mine were the same, since I have only built two ski's this way I knew mine hull was already ready for this type of speed and we just needed a strong motor.
Brad is the man behind the engine build and has a shop in New Orleans. My project came from a 09 SHO, but due to someone not taking care of the motor and winterizing the ski the valves were stuck in the motor. I wanted a motor that was brand new, but I just didn't have the spare time to build everything myself. Thats why I brought Brad into the picture to help me and free up my spare time. Brad is one of those guys that doesn't leave anything untouched. He stands behind his stuff, and I knew he was the man for the job. Not only did I receive a motor back, I received about 10 pages of notes on his engine build. Every spec on the motor was included. Clearence, from each bore, to each valve, to every main bearing, to anything on the motor was there for me to see. So lets start with the motor first. Here are a few pictures of the engine build.

Some earily pics of the engine before the build. The engine block was sent to Millennium Technologies. They bored it first size over at 86.5 mm and we used Riva's forged racing pistons leaving the compression at 8.6 All lower end mains were replaced and Riva's main stud kits were used on the lower end. The heads were reworked, valve job, and received all new valves, HD springs, titanium valve retainers. We also used Riva's HD head gasket and stud kit for the head. All other bolts were replaced with new ones. Part of Riva's cam gear kit was used too. What I wanted was a engine that was built strong enough to handle future mods the first time around. The valve train is set to handle 30 pounds, but we will probably end up somewhere around 20 pounds of boost. We are starting at 15 pounds for break in and just to enjoy the setup for a while.

Ben's Performance 100 MPH Plus Conversion GPR-SHO
Looks good. Do you know if the GPR800 hull will convert the same with the SHO motor? Just didn't know if the mounts were different or not. Helping a friend look for a hull.

Before any goodies were installed on the top end base engine timing was measured. New timing chain and Riva's timing gears were then installed.

With the engine complete is was time to drop off in the hull for a quick test fit before we started cleaning everything up. The complete SHO pump and intermitted shaft was used. So it was all bolt in and go. I made the hull cuts the same as Keith's and reglassed the hull.
