Yes, you would have to take the carbs off...skip that since you were not frying a piston and you did not take the carb rack off. It is a good practice to check it.

The head gasket can be used a few times times...just put a thin layer of grease on it.

Remember all that sludge that was in the combustion chamber is on your crank bearings. Take it easy on it for the first tank, hopefully the gas and oil will clean it out. Maybe add a little extra oil to the gas to protect the bearings.

    Bog on WOT run...

Will do. I'm off tomorrow so I guess I know what I'll be doing...

All I can figure is that it's not leaking at idle or low speeds because it seems fine then, but as throttle increases so does the water pressure, which is when it starts spraying water over the carb.

Can't begin to tell you how much I'm hoping it's that easy of a fix.

    I've been at 40:1, I'll increase to 32:1

I'll report back tomorrow. Thanks again.

    Bog on WOT run...

    Actually...
As I was bringing it in it bogged really bad, but the low fuel buzzer came in at the same time, figured that was why. Once I got it on the trailer I found that a small piece of the rubber boot between the stinger and exhaust squeezed back out of the hose clamp and had squirted water everywhere. Doh!

I tightened the clamp and took it back out, sure enough it did it again...a mile out. Grrrrr.....

I had to tighten the crap out of it before it finally held (for now). I'm not sure what the deal is, but this is obviously the source of the original problem.

On my last run the rpm's dropped to 6800 and 61 mph.

I changed the center plug and all was well again, 65 mph at 7100.

I tighten the boot snug, not too tight and put a little grease on the sealing surfaces.

You may want to check the pressure on that boot. Ride with the seat off and see how much it expands at high RPM's.

If it looks like it is going to pop you may want to look into relieving some of that pressure.

    Bog on WOT run...

Any suggestions in how to do that? I've never heard of it being an issue before now. Supposedly Riva or Protec make something, can't seem to find it though.

It becomes an issue with bigger pitch impellers and higher speeds causing higher cooling pressure. With individual heads people will dump #3 overboard through a pisser. I use a Jet Works valve set a 7 PSI on the stock head T'eed into the aft outlet and then overboard. It will dump when the pressure hits 7 PSI.
