Pete, the line about the kids freaking out and become useless if the internet went down for any length of time is hilarious and true. None of us are immune from this 'syndrome,' which is one of the reasons I recently started painting with oils on canvas again. Analog vs. digital. Nothing counters high tech like low tech. Not as fun as riding the skis, but gets me off the 'screens' and requires a different level of focus, especially when its raining outside.

    LOL....your smartphone is listening too!

Yep might as well just surrender and give up any and all control and attempts to retain the most minscule amount of privacy.

Women killed in Mexican cartel murders had alleged ties to sex cult Nxivm

The nine women and children slaughtered in Mexico on Monday were part of a Mormon community with ties to the alleged sex-cult Nxivm.

The outpost Mormon community in Mexico is where underlings of Nxivm leader Keith Raniere recruited young women to work as nannies in an upstate New York compound run by the accused cult — suggesting at least in part that the jobs would get the girls away from their home region’s drug violence, according a man hired by Raniere to produce a documentary about the group.

The three moms and six kids killed in Monday’s violence in the northern town of Sonora are believed to have been the victims of a drug cartel, which may have mistaken the group’s caravan of three SUVs for rivals, Mexican authorities said Tuesday.

The filmmaker working with Raniere at the time, Mark Vicente, told the online magazine Slate that the documentary ultimately became a recruiting video for Nxivm, which purported to be a self-help group but morphed into what the feds called a cult that sexually, physically and emotionally abused its mainly female followers.

The film included an interview with Julian LeBaron, who identified himself as the cousin of one of the moms killed Monday and who is a leader of the Mexico Mormon community. LeBaron’s brother was kidnapped by a local drug cartel in 2009, and the family defiantly refused to pay a ransom. The cartel eventually released the abducted man.

We lost our privacy beginning with federal income taxes, then social security, and later, credit cards (credit in general). The horse has long fled the barn, and the genie is too fat to put back in the bottle! Just sayin'!

What's wrong with having a US Passport?

Last week my parents came up to stay with me a few days. I spoke to my dad on the phone and mentioned I was thinking of getting a Costco card. I did not search for it online. I did not call, nor visit the store. I mentioned it ONLY through a phone call. Guess what I received in the mail Monday Nov 4th? A Costco invitation to join their club. I have never received a mailer from Costco before this one. Never, until a few days after I mention it to my father, on a telephone call, and I did discuss it sitting in my living room, with my phone in my pocket. I find it odd to say the least, and outrageously coincidental of the timing, and the mailer's specificity in the membership I was talking about possibly getting.

Nothing when it's not being forced for non international travel.
