California AG Xavier Becerra: ‘Definitely And Imminently’ Filing 46th Lawsuit Against Trump Administration Over National Emergency Declaration

    Legislating via the courts.

    Via ABC News:

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said the state will “definitely and imminently” be filing its 46th lawsuit against the Trump administration, this one over the president’s recent national emergency declaration on the southern border.
“We are prepared,” Becerra, a Democrat, said on “This Week” Sunday. “We knew something like this might happen, and with our sister state partners, we are ready to go.”

Becerra told ABC News after his interview on “This Week” that New Mexico, Oregon, Hawaii and Minnesota will be joining California in the coming lawsuit. […]

“This Week” Co-Anchor Martha Raddatz pressed California’s top law enforcement officer on the broad authority granted to the president under the 1976 National Emergencies Act as to what qualifies as an emergency.

“Where do you believe he’s really overstepped his bounds, given this very vague law?” Raddatz asked.

“Well, he himself said it,” Becerra said. “He did not need to announce or declare a crisis. He did not have to call this an emergency.”

During Friday’s press conference announcing the declaration, Trump said, “I could do the wall over a longer period of time. I didn’t need to do this, but I’d rather do it much faster.”

    Happy Presidents Day, Q...

So I heard Jussie Smollett and Colin Kaeupernik may be starting a fertilizer business, since they're both experts at shoveling bull crap.

Alec Baldwin suggests Trump's latest attack on 'SNL' could be 'a threat to my safety'

Alec Baldwin, the actor who plays President Trump on "SNL," is responding to the president's latest shot at the show.
Baldwin is asking if Trump's tweet "constitutes a threat" to his family's safety.

On Saturday night Baldwin reprised his Trump impersonation for an "SNL" skit that recreated the president's Friday morning speech about the border, the budget, and assorted other subjects.

By "SNL" standards, it was par for the course. But Trump — who has fired back at the show numerous times in the past — fired up his Twitter account again on Sunday morning.

Trump called "SNL" unfunny and unfair, indicating that he probably saw at least parts of the episode from the night before.

"He's watching,"CNN media analyst Bill Carter said on Sunday's "Reliable Sources."

Trump's tweet asked, "How do the Networks get away with these total Republican hit jobs without retribution? Likewise for many other shows? Very unfair and should be looked into."

He added: "This is the real Collusion!"

Many social media commenters just shrugged off the president's talk about "retribution" for a sketch comedy show. But Peter Baker of The New York Times noted on Twitter that "no other president in decades publicly threatened 'retribution' against a television network because it satirized him."

In the past, Trump has also suggested that NBC station licenses should be challenged, without any evident follow-up.

Trump's frequent tweets against the media — primarily targeting news outlets that he calls the "enemy of the people" — have caused considerable concern at NBC and other companies.

At the end of the day on Sunday, Baldwin tweeted, "I wonder if a sitting President exhorting his followers that my role in a TV comedy qualifies me as an enemy of the people constitutes a threat to my safety and that of my family?"

Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer demonstrated another way for a politician to respond to an impersonator.

"Weekend Update" showed Schumer — played by Alex Moffat — gloating over the recent budget deal.

The senator then tweeted a link to the segment — which had Moffat holding up a smartphone — and said: "Good impersonation, SNL. But got one thing wrong. I use a flip phone!"

    "With our sister state partners?"...

So, some states are considered his family, and some are not.

Wow, it's almost like these subversives are dividing the country or something.

    Oh wait, they are.

Ginsburg reportedly made an appearance at a concert celebrating herself ion February 4th although no photos were released of her at the event.

But so far there are no new shots of the 86-year-old justice.

The photograph of RBG that the New York Times used in their report yesterday about RBG returning to the Supreme Court was actually taken last November.

I've still seen no current photo.

Too sick to have a picture taken of her? Where is she, actually? pic.twitter.com/yc2SyeGmej

Sailor kissing woman in iconic V-J Day photo at Times Square dies at 95

The man in the iconic photo of an exuberant Navy sailor kissing a woman in New York City's Times Square at the end of World War II has died.

George Mendonsa, 95, had a seizure and fell in an assisted living facility in Middletown, Rhode Island, his daughter, Sharon Molleur, told the Providence Journal. He lived there with his wife of 70 years, Rita, and died Sunday, two days short of his 96th birthday.

The photo was taken Aug. 14, 1945, which is known as V-J Day, the day Japan officially surrendered to the United States in World War II. Published in Life magazine as "V-J Day in Times Square," it came to represent how joyful Americans and people across the world felt at the end of the war, in which 406,000 Americans died and 671,000 were wounded, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Other commemorations of V-J Day mark Sept. 2, 1945, the Japan formally surrendered to Allied forces.
