Chicago gang violence – more gun control is not the answer

Chicago, IL – Mayor Rahm Emanuel called it “unacceptable,” and called for stricter gun laws, more education, the usual liberal drivel. But 14 people are dead, another 82 injured in various weekend shooting rampages across Chicago. The death count may rise, as many of the victims are in critical condition at this writing.

The string of shootings began at 3:30pm on Thursday, and encompassed five violent south side neighborhoods, according to the LATimes. Two of the people were shot by Chicago police and died.
And it only took 84 hours to do it.

    The liberal approach

The LA Times quoted Mayor Emanuel:

“Speaking to an audience at the Miles Davis Magnet Academy on the city’s South Side, Emanuel called for better policing, better education, stronger gun laws and ‘building a sense of community’ to address the city’s gun violence.
‘I ask all Chicagoans, regardless of where you live … end the gun violence in our city,” Emanuel said, in video captured by the Sun-Times. “Wherever you are, wherever you live, the gun violence that was part of this weekend is totally unacceptable.’”

On Sunday alone, there were 21 incidents of shootings in Chicago. In spite of the deployments of hundreds of extra officers for the holiday weekend, the city STILL went off the charts in violence.
    Gang violence, not citizen violence

Chicago’s homicide rate is actually down since 2012. But high-profile incidents such as this continually grab the attention of anti-gun people. and they are missing the point of the entire violent culture of Chicago gangs:

“There’s a greater sanction from the gang members who lose that firearm from their gang than there is to go to jail for possession of that gun,” Police Chief McCarthy

The gang culture, as their police chief mentioned, is about KEEPING the gun, not turning it in for money.
No ordinary people went out and started shooting- they are members of vicious gangs who do not value life.

Education is irrelevant unless it happens at an extremely early age and morality is fostered in the home. Stricter gun laws are irrelevant when the criminal element is at play.

As usual, liberals like Emanuel can’t see the forest for the trees. In May of 2014, Chicago passed even stricter gun laws. Since then there have been two major shooting incidents. “Assault weapons bans” will never solve violent crime. Criminals don’t turn in their guns!

as a fellow down state Illinoisan, I fell Chicago is lost. There is no short or long term answer that will stem the tide of violence. The liberal answer is more laws, better education etc but what happens when the ignorant and criminals don't follow laws or don't want to be educated rather suck the life out if the working class? Answer: The present situation. What needs to happen, at least in the effective short term is, honestly, public punishment and executions and instant executions for gang members regardless of what they did. There is no saving these people, they are the problem and don't want to be helped ...only cause problems. After that, change the policy of welfare, wick, and other government handouts so that it's not more economically suitable to sit on your ass, be dumb as a rock, and crank out 15 kids with 10 different mothers and still be living in free housing, rolling an escalade on 26" and $10k in their pocket with a couple stolen pistols and shotguns stashed at "day baba mommas crib" or the trap house. Screw them, they are monsters of their own making and should be treated as such.rant over

    Investment Advice

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines 5 years ago, you would have $49.00 today!

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG 5 years ago, you would have $33.00 today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers 5 years ago, you would have $0.00 today.

But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for the recycling refund, you would have received $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg.

    And as a bonus...

A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that on average Americans drink 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means that the average American gets about 41 miles to the gallon!

Makes you damned proud to be an American

I remember a movie that was titled "Escape From New York"

...maybe that same idea should be applied to Chi-town and/or Motor-city.
a 40 foot fence and let them make their own world 'on the inside'. I certainly don't want to have to pick up the tab - let them annihilate each other. I might support air-drops of ammunition, if they built the fence.

Anne Frank wrote a diary in her own hand as events unfolded around her. Contemporaneous written observations that have been authenticated by international experts.

Katie Worthman, now 88, has no diary or contemporaneous writings. She purports to recount complex political events that she experienced as a 10 year old child. She has vested financial and personal interests.

You are comparing apples and oranges.

After the rise of the Nazi’s, Germany established their version of gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, the mentally ill, and others, who were unable to defend themselves against the “Brown Shirts”, were arrested and exterminated. Interestingly, the Brown Shirts were eventually targeted for extermination themselves following their blind acts of allegiance to Hitler. Any American military and police would be wise to grasp the historical significance of the Brown Shirts’ fate...
13 million were arrested and exterminated by Brown Shirts who were then targeted for extermination? This is gross historical inaccuracy but I see it really does not matter.
