Doing a GP1200R rebuild and had the crank out with the coupler still on. Poured over the site but nothing worked. This thing was really on there. Then, inspired by another post here (I would post credit but can't find the post again) I ran to the local Harbor Freight and bought a giant pipe wrench (forgot to bring the 20% coupon) but it was on sale anyway for $11.99!

1. Lay crank on floor
2. Wrap towel around it
3. Open jaws completely

4. Put wrench on crank
5. Wrap cheater bar
6. Stand on pipe wrench
7. Put cheater in coupler, stand on end of cheater bar
8. Viola - coupler breaks loose

I hope this helps another newbie when he runs out of things to try!
