RXP surging around 6000 rpms ...
I have noticed that my 2005 RXP surges sometimes, especially around 6000 - 6500 rpm. It runs great, pulls 8100 rpm usually, 72 - 73 mph. Has 65 hours and fresh spark plugs, but it did this sometimes with the old plugs too, so it is not a spark plug issue. The surging is not bad, but was just curious if anyone else noticed this on their skis ... and if it is an indicator of a clutch starting to slip or anything else ...

If your clutch was slipping you would not be able to reach high RPM's.

I have the RR intercooler, 158 degree t-stat, PPG power pipe, PPG 14/19 Solas, Riva grate, Riva air filter, stock ECU.
The clutch is not gone ... I still easily pull 8100 rpms usually, just that it surges noticeably around 6000 rpm area when I am just cruising. I was just curious if others have that too, and if it means anything. I have 65 hours on the stock clutch, but it almost never engages since I ride in very flat water most of the time.

It could be a bad batch of fuel.

I suppose you could be at a borderline point on the fuel/ignition maps. Maybe it can't quite decide which mixture and/or ignition advance setting to use? don't know for sure, just a guess.
can you feel the surge or is it simply read on the tach?

If it's at the beginning of a ride, could it be that you slightly overfilled with oil, and when you first go out, the oil is heading back through the intake and the s/c cluch is oily and slipping?

Sorry Nutt, thats just not possible or how the clutch works. It's inside the engine, sprayed with oil. No amount of oil in the intake could ever get to the SC clutch.

Oh ok thanks, I love getting to know the rxp engine. I havn't seen any diagrams or been inside a rxp engine to know what is where.
