05 RXT won't start, How to cross starter relay and jump starter?
Yes, another one of these threads... I've searched and searched and I've seen 3 possible solutions/tests....
1) Make sure the batter is good, get it load tested
2) Cross the starter relay, if it starts the relay sucks, replace it
3) Jump the starter, if it doesnt start, replace the starter
My two questions are
1) How do you cross the relay? Can anyone show pictures of this process?
2) How do you jump the starter directly? Again, anyone have any pictures of this?
Thanks,
Chris

No pics right now, but it's real easy. Just locate the starter relay in side the ski and lay a screw driver across the two contacts.
Mine went out at 160 hours on my red RXT. Quick and easy to replace for like $50.

Thanks. I get a slow crank, but it wont turn over. Is this telling me to replace the relay AND the battery?

That's how you do it. Crossing the 2 terminals will put power directly to the starter. If the starter doesn't turn, it is no good. If the starter turns, its the relay. Simple as that. There aren't any other ways about it. It will have constant power. The relay on the old seadoos was in the black electrical box. I would assume this hasn't changed. It's a black plastic block with 2 studs coming out of the top. Wear you rubber boots. ; )

Very likely. If you attempted to start numerous times after the relay died, you probably drained your battery. Same thing happened to me. If you were hitting the start button and just hearing a click, then you've probably got a dead relay and battery at this point. Unfortunately the battery is nearly 3x the price of the relay.

Mike, This is a 3 year old thread. BUT to answer your question... If all you get is sparks when you jump across the two post and the starter does not turn. You need a new starter. Assuming your battery is good. When you jump across the two big posts on the relay it just by passes that relay. A way of testing the relay.
