Joe, I'll post up some pics ASAP. I may need a part.

My waterbox has something rattlign round inside that is to big to fit out the holes.

It is fitted with a Rave valve so I dont think a bypass with a straight pipe will work.

Is there an aftermarket solution, or I should I try and source a sea-doo waterbox?

    Rattle in Water Box

What you are hearing is a broken baffle in the water box. It is/was a very common problem with the early water boxes. It's an easy fix if you have access to a good aluminum welder. Simply cut the box in 2 and re-weld the baffle. while you are in there, re-weld all the baffles. Do NOT run the ski with a broken baffle! It could plug your exhaust and damage your motor.

BTW, I have a 95XP800 that I bought new in 96. It is in perfect condition (decals, plastic, rubber gel coat, everything). I also have a 96XP that I built for my daughter.

The 95XP800 had a number of different components used on them that were changed on the 96+ X4s. Some were good changes, but, some were not. I will list them below:
    Long (setback) pump
"in your face" yellow gel coat (different yellow than later skis)
Single pod hood (trim gauge only)
multifunction fuel gauge mounted in deck below handle bars
    slightly different port map
Mikuni 38/40 BN carbs. only had 1 transition port (makes them harder to tune) different jetting than 96+
Ignition module (only used this model in 95)
All metal waterbox rave valve (flow to pipe controller) later models are all plastic.
    "hump" seat
Bearing/seal on driveshaft instead of carbon face seal
Oil pump lever instead of bell crank like on 96+
Crankshaft/balancing shaft gears more coarse than 96+
Oil injection points on rotary valve cover different
I am sure that I have left a few things out, but, these are the most noticable differences between the 95XP800 and the 96+ skis.

I have considered selling mine. If anyone is interested let me know.

Another late night on the factory racer

The pull on this ski is simply amazing. Was next to a friend on. 97 gsx 800 and we were dead even. I then realized my trim was down, trimmed up and it took off like a shotgun and walked away from him. Without any doubt the best x4 I've ever ridden. I have a 95 xp720 coming in. I might part it out and keep the setback pump setup with trim rod and steering cable, incase I wanna do this to my 96 951xp

Joe, Which TDR box did you get? Any problem bolting on the rave valve from the 800?

TDR tells me the 1995 xp800 box is slightly different than the later models.

Which one did you use? Did you just order the one from the 96 and use a longer coupler to mate up to the pipe?

    Any other differences?

This box was from my old 97 spx. It was the rec box. Using a 96+ water valve with no issue and a flex piece of hose. however, I did modify the inlet for my xp951, this is why I'm using a longer flex hose. Still No problems what so ever.

Joe, did your ski have alot of oxidation? Did you have to restore the gelcoat?

Also, what hydroturf option is that?

    Hey guys.

It did have some build up. I used 3m restore for boats. But any number fade I wetsanded with 1800.

Ht was cut diamond with PSA backingand the 2 tone color option. It does cost more than 1 color ht but soooooo worth it!
