RXX Hood Swap Update
Well I got the hood paid 4 and it is on the way. I have known that there are around 12 holes on each side of the boat to fill. I was going to cut 2" round holes from fiberglass cloth and stick them on the inside of the boat. Then fill the holes with the gel coat. I called Gel coat international to get a repair kit and he told me that they had never done the silver metallic so after talking to the chemist they said they will mix it up but are not sure how well it will work. This is turning into a big job!!!
So I am going to try this first to see how it looks.
If it does not work I thought about just shooting the top coat with new gel coat. My friend had his painter try his boat and the painter said it came out really ruff and would not work without sanding in-between coats.
Has anyone here ever shoot gel coat and if so did it do this or come out OK. I was thinking he may have not mixed something right or was not spraying enough through the gun.
The guy at gel coat said it takes about 5-6 coats to build up 1/8” maybe you need all the coats for it to work right???
Anyone have any suggestions, I am putting on the hood and will post pics next week.

Good deal David. Did you get a carbon fiber hood, or plastic?
Where did you find it?

I got the plastic from the RXX from Joe McLaughlin.
I will weigh it so we can compare it to the RX DI.
If I have to gel coat the boat I am going to do the top deck red so it will match the 99GSX LTD then I will have "Twins" one will just be bigger
I will take pleanty of pics while doing all of it.

Sweet! Be sure and keep a parts listing of everything needed to do the conversion. This is something that I may be interested in sometime in the future.

You got it Jerry.
I am going to wait to order parts until I have the hood here and can see what is going to swap over from my hood.
I figure I can sell my RXP hood to cover the cost of the mod, I hope!

I bet there will be people that want to turn their base model ski into a RXP look alike.
I am going to try Ebay when finished and start bidding @ $225 plus freight.
Getting $300-$400 would not suprise me. No bids would not suprise me either???

And there will be those people that want to change the color of their ski, but dont want the down time of pulling their hood off and having it painted.
It will sell!
