Bad wear ring? or pump seal? 01 gp1200r
Hey guys!
Quick run down...
im from the "other side" (SeaDoo land) haha...So I have no clue about yamaha's...
My buddy just got 2 yamaha gp1200r's
Fisrt
the 2000 seems to be 100% stock. GPSd at 60.1 mph and felt good...70 hrs
But,
The 01 has some SERIOUS cavitaton
This ski also seems to be stock with the exception of D plate mod and cat sensor...
GPS'd at 58.1 .......it has 45 hrs on it...
Ski's were purschased from two different people.
The 01 was purschased from a PWC shop in Michigan. So no history as to what has been done to it.
So that being said, Where do I start with these gprs???
Once again. I HAVE NEVER EVEN LOOKED AT A GPR! (and my buddy is new to skis)
I was thinking wear ring...But, from what my search turned up. It looks like yamaha doesn't use a platic liner like seadoo...
I also noticed some talk about a pump seal kit???
anyone car to shed some light on the subject???
Thanks in advance guys!!!!

the GPR's can have a plastic or stainless wear ring depending on if it was every done before, both are available. How does the prop look?

My 2000 GPR cavitated worse than any ski I have ever ridden. Coming from years of previous seadoo ownership with a replaceable nylon wear ring, I was really amazed to see the Yami had a stainless steel wear ring. Mine wasn't that bad so I left it in and sealed the pump shoes and the difference was night and day. I didnt use a Riva or R&D PPK. I made my own using Amazing Casting Resin from Hobby Lobby and fast cure 4200. 2 kits @ $15/each=$30 vs $80 for the PPK. Saved myself $50.

probably blew out the felt seal between the pump shoe and transom plate
seal the shoe and make sure the impeller to liner clear isnt too excessive
also get rid of the stock intake grate and go with an aftermarket one... I prefer R&D or Riva 1200 grates
