Too soon for the first oil change?
Well, im about 7.2 hours on the ticker. The next time i take her out i know i will want to ride more than less than 3 hours. I have heard that you should change the oil at 10 hours. Is 7.2-ish too soon?
I figure i will get some Yamalube 10w-40 and also some Yamalube grease for the intermidiate housing(or is there a different grease i can/should use?). I dont remember if i need a filter or not but i will replace it as well. Dont think i have EVER done an oil change on anything without changing the filter too.... on anything ive ever changed oil on.
Thoughts?

Great question, I was wondering that also. I was thinking about super-lube synthetic grease too.
PS I'm glad to hear the ski is back and running good for ya Xrunner

I plan on it, the dealer does the 10hr service.....they change oil, lube intermediate shaft, grease control cables.....all that for 150?
Im going to do what they did but for about 1/2 the price. Probably goin to run Mobil1 Mx4 racing oil.....from Walmart since they now have some of the lowest oil prices ive seen, Ive found a spot sellin Yamaha oil filters for 19.99

I did my 10hr service at 14 hours. It really isn't a big issue is you go over by a few hours.

My only thought is warranty.
Should the unthinkable happen, you know that the manufacturer will try to wriggle out of there obligations and use any excuse i.e. no 10 hour service.
'Cos if there's no dealer stamp, it didn't happen.
And forget any chance of your local dealer backing you up.
So for the sake of $75, I would go to the dealer.
And yes do the 10 hour now, most of the crap would be in the oil and filter after 1/2 hour of running.

Changing it sooner is not bad for the engine. Remember that you have a lot of metal wear going round and round in the engine while it is breaking in.

I change my oil WAY more often than recommended.
But it only takes about 2 1/2 qts to do it so why not? We ride these things hard.
Make sure to get a good extractor. I got mine here in the store. Check this one out: http://www.4-tecperformance.com/inde...roducts_id=864
