Lots of info in the older threads regarding the Hurricane.
It is a very short hull, good for one person. Not a top speed hull design, in stock form it tends to porpoise. Properly configured it can turn tightly and provide a fast, wet ride
Acceleration is strong even with the stock 700cc engine. Some hull parts are unique to the Hurricane, which was only made in 1996 and 1997.
What condition is your buddies Hurricane?

Check out Bruce's Killer Cane form Adjust A Thrust.
http://www.wetwolf.com/hurr/hurr.htm
They were made for buoy racing, so they could carve a tight turn. Not the best for top speed as K447 mentioned, and I believe it's a very wet ride. But it should have some very good acceleration.
Post #4 shows it only doing 53-54 MPH from the factory. http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/show...-Tech-Articles
Either your buddy HIGHLY modified his, or he's telling you the speed displayed on the MFD. Also known as the Dream O Meter because it almost always reads high.

Actually, 80% of 60 is 48mph...which is pretty damn close to a realistic top speed of a 'cane.
I think I've seen maybe 52 out of mine while riding on glass. High 40's is more likely with even the slightest big of chop or wind. 60 is way above the top speed when it was new right out of the box.
