2003 supercharged 4 tec that the forward most plastic exhaust system resonator split
I've got a 2003 supercharged 4 tec that the forward most plastic exhaust system resonator split open on
I'm thinking because it back fired a couple of times really bad that's what caused it?
I bought the craft used it had some wiring harness damage from rodent infestation
plus the supercharger had bearing noise
Fixed all the wiring harness damage, overhauled the supercharger,
cleaned out all areas that might have been restricted or contaminated, etc...
The fuel had moisture in it, I cleaned out that, new fuel with fuel injection treatment, fuel stabilizer, changed the plugs
seems to running pretty good
but I have issues with the split open plastic resonator
I tried to seal it up temporarily, but when I go out for a water test
it just opens up again
Is there a way to bypass some of the exhaust/ water box components just so i can get it out for a water test?
That way I can be sure all else is ok before I order addition parts from dealer
Also wondering what tricks can be done for a less restricted exhaust system
with all the hoses, 2 mufflers/water boxes, etc...
It's a wonder that a super charged motor like this doesn't get all back pressured up
Thanks

the resonator can be replaced with stright pipe.
Is your second water box (resonator) plastic or metal?
Just want to be sure we are talking about the same plastic piece that split.
to clean up the exhaust you can just use the water box off the j pipe and run it stright out the back with thru hull pipe and fitting.

Plastic
On factory parts fiche it's listed as
*LH. RESONATOR
item #19
part# 274000993
I was thinking to replace it with a nice sturdy piece of PVC with a glued on end cap, maybe run a couple of screw or rivets through the end cap as well so it won't pop or blow off under pressure
http://www.actionsportstx.com/fiche_...=01%2D+Muffler
So I can bypass/remove the secondary muffler, then run the hose that usually goes to that, right out the back/exhaust hole of the body?
MUFFLER-PAINTED
Item # 26
Part # 274000988
Thanks much for the advice/help

That was only on the 03 GTX SC. You can cap it off at the waterbox/ muffler. RIVA sells the aluminum cap for it. I still might have one for those skis.

Thanks for the advice,
As was listed previously by skoepp do you think it will help to by pass or remove the second muffler/waterbox
just connect the exit hose to the output side of the first waterbox/muffler
there is another plastic resonator on #2 muffler
it's looks to be ok
however while I'm cleaning up that area
might as well make the most of it...
what kind of side effects do you think will come from these modifications

Renoving the secondary waterbox will make the ski louder and resonate at low speeds. If you are not doing any serious mods to the ski leave the secondary alone.

I used a hole saw to cut a piece of 1" thick appatounge wood to make a plug for the plastic air baffle and I used the stock rubber hoses with a 2 1/2" PVC sch80 close nipple to complete the second box delete. On the PVC nipple, I put it on a lathe to cut off the threads on both ends. This could have been done with sand paper, files, or a grinder, but I have a lathe, so why not! This removal also cleared enough space that I was able to install a bilge pump with a float. - I've had a ski turn into a bouy once, and for $80 worth of parts itgs good to know that you are protected a little better. I have the float a little higher than the pump, but it's only there as a safety resourse. I also mounted a waterproof switch in the glove box to use as a manual override to run the pump. Works Great!
It sounds mean in the water! Too bad it's such a big boat and can't back it up with any real speed on top. At least not like my GPR does!

Sorry, No sound bite or video. But IT DOES sound nice. I wouldn't recomend this if you have a "picky" significant other that want a stealthy ride. This is by no means as loud as my Riva Free Flow on my GPR, but a lower, deeper growl. When the boost kicks in, it does sound pretty cool from the beach as it pulls away!
