Aftermarket gauges?
I have a 96 venture and I am interested in possibly replaceing the stock gauge cluster with a custom built housing with a couple gaues in it. The 2 main gauges I am worried about monitoring is fuel and speed. RPMs would be nice also but its not a major concern right off. Its also set up for premix so Im not to concerned with oil level.
My question is.. How would I be able to get a reading for these gauges off of the stock conponents? or Would I have to replace them with aftermarket components to read the speed, rpms and fuel level?

You very likely will not be able to do this. Both the fuel and oil levels work off of "floats". Since jetskis bounce like crazy, you cannot use a fuel level sensor like you would have in a car. If you take the fuel level sensor out of the tank and manually move the floats, you would see that there is at least a 2 second delay each time you move them. That is so the level isn't bouncing all over the place. So unless someone makes some sort of custom sender with floats on it that are meant for this application, it will not work.

Well I know that they have gauges that read floats for older vehicles. Im not sure how I would hook it up or if I would need anything special and Im not worried about the oil level because I have premix.
What about the speed and possibly rpms?

Honestly, I think you would be much better off (cheaper?) trying to get a working unit for your WV rather than trying to figure out if and how to put something else in there (imho). I take it that your current gauge is not working?
For speed you could always use a GPS instead. Would be much more accurate anyway. You would just have to keep fresh batteries around.

No it work for the most part. Its a little screwed up from the sun so kinda hard to read but I was just thinking of this as something different to do.

In my project thread in the link below my post I went with aftermarket gauges, it is expensive unless you get lucky and the stock senders match the requirements for a standard gauge. mine were off so I am replacing senders as well as gauges, but I think they turned out pretty nice, I went with autometer marine pro comp carbon fiber gauges
