Major oil smoke out of my exhaust today...
I turned the ski on it's sides to sand and polish the bottom this week. After I reloaded it on the trailer, I figured I would get both skis ready for this season. The 12F no problem, but the Ultra was fine until I started blip-ping the throttle....raw oil was puking out of the tailpipe.
I had turned the engine over by hand to check for a possible hydrolock situation before starting it and the oil was only on the tip of the stick, so I figure oil went somewhere. The boat started right up and runs on the trailer fine, so I don't think the oil went through the intake and engine.
The little drain tube in the air box had some oil in it, so I emptied it.
Ran it at the local ramp and it quit smoking after I loaded the engine for a few mins.
What are your thoughts?

Thanks Waz,
I figured it would clear, but where is it coming from? Muffler? Catch can? Airbox? Intercooler? I would hate to have my first run out this season be ruined by a plugged intercooler or fouled plugs.
I Changed the oil in that ski anyway, so oil level is good now.
Shoulda seen the nasty oily mess it blew into the shop!

The sump is semi dry meaning the oil reservoir still lays under the crankshaft. My guess would be the oil weaped past the rings while in a position very unnatural and over extended time frame. Then it ran and/or was hand pumped by the pistonians into the exhaust. The rings don't seal the best on these engines as it is and that is why you sometimes see gas in oil. Shall we call this GIE

I think all will be well. Started it up this morning and only slight smoke was visible.
Now we just need some warmer weather.........
