issues after modifying my fx sho
Hi everyone
I have an 09 FX SHO with the following mods:
Intake sleeve
Riva Exhaust with standard waterbox
Low boost supercharger wheel from Gary Watson's
Skat Trak 13/24 jet impeller
Intercooler Cooling kit
R&D Intake grate
I took the pwc out for a ride and it started to miss slightly and after using the pwc for about 2 hours I checked the spark plugs and they started to look a little bit scary...check out the attached picture. I then put the standard supercharer wheel back on and still getting the same issues (not as bad) but still a lot of build up of residue. The engine also stalled a couple of times when letting go of the throttle and coming to a stop.
Does anyone know what I have done to cause this issue?
regards,
OZFXSHO

Hot and lean? Check all of the hoses in your entire intake path
overadvanced ignition timing
intake manifold vacuum leaks
sticking intake or exhaust valves

There's nothing earth shattering in that setup, so my first question is, what are you using for a tune? Reflash? Motec? Vipec?

Hi
To SHOBiz and hitman:
It does sound like it could be Hot and Lean. I will check all the hoses in the entire intake path.
I haven't changed the ignition timing.
I wonder if when I removed the intake manifold if I didn't fit it back properly and a possible leak has occured?
How can I test for sticking intake or exhaust valves?
The tune is standard, no reflash, no Motec, no Vipec.
The pwc ran perfectly before I started the modifications list so I am assuming the intake and exhaust valves are working ok.
I am happy to hear any other possible suggestions or any further suggestions from SHOBiz and/or hitman.
regards,
OZFXSHO

What is the residue? The pic is not good, hard to tell, but if it is not aluminum specks (looks more like white crystals), it is more likely some additive in the gas, or possibly a water leak ...

i dont see how your adding more fuel in your mod list? i asume your using the E-TECH SS wheel?
you need to use a fuel pressure regulator or a powershot with this setup to add additional fuel to the engine since you increased the boost pressure. well... you nedded... if you screwed up your engine by leaning it out with the bigger wheel its not going to get any better by putting the stock wheel back in.

I ran this exact same setup up for 2 hrs with stock ECU, ski ran bad on the stock boost limiter and rpm limiter, when I plugged the motec fixed all that. I don't kow what your issue is but hope you sort it out mate.

You can't add all those parts and not add FUEL. I really hope the engine is OK. I can't tell what is going on with the plug because the picture is too out of focus.
You may need to do a compression check and leak-down test to find out if the engine is damaged. If you aren't familiar with those tests I strongly suggest you take the ski to professional or dealer.

Hi
The residue is definetly white crystals.
I will test for sticking intake or exhaust valves.
I will do a compression check.
After reading all the above posts it seems I must add extra fuel.
Thanks to everyone for their replies. I have a very busy weekend with my pwc.

OZFXSHO
I will get an a/f reading.
