Coating on block
Ok time for a curiosity killed the cat question.
What is the block and cylinders coated with on the outside. I ask since my engine was pickled in salt by the previous owner and I'd like to get it redone after I have it bored and cleaned out so as to avoid any further corrosion.

There is a factory aluminum paint that peels off easily. The only coating that might be worthwhile if you were pulling the engine would be a hard anodize. I also use a cold galvanizing spray as a sacrificial coating on mine.

There's no if to the conversation lol. The engine is Out and stripped down w the pistons soaking in pb oil so we can hammer them out. I'll look into the anodizing. Thank you
