87 Octane?
Hi folks!
I realize that we should only put at least 91 octane in our RXPs, but if 87 is the only stuff available, due to the present gas crisis, what should I do?
1. Run the 87 and deal with the knocking and pinging? Will that ruin the engine at all? I will add some octane boost if that will help
2. Leave the RXP in my driveway and work on the honey-do list?...but its so nice out to go and ride!
Thanks!
Ed

Ed, you can run 87 in your ski, but the performance won't be up to par.
I wouldn't make a habit of it.

You should be safe but it wont be fun.
87 is just good enough to get back to the launch instead of begging for a tow.
I wouldn't fill up with 87 and try to have fun.

So say it was a beautiful day and Crab Island was going to be a site to see and your friends were going, but 91+ octane was no where to be found, would you go or stay home?

I don't care for cruising, I care for having a blast.
So to answer your question, yes, I'd stay home or do something else.

Octane boosters will grenade your motor.

I fill up with 93 on the road. Take 2 , 5 gallon tanks of 93.
When I'm cruising on the water and get a little less than half, I fill up on the water with 87 or 89 which puts me around 91 octane. When I get back to the dock and have half a tank I fill up with 93 from the tanks.
I do carry 2 of those $10 octane boosters (for an emergency) but I guess I'll put them in my car.
