I noticed that idle AFR, also. I don't understand why it's so rich from the factory and has a rough idle with a reflash. Can't anyone nail down a decent idle?

First I ran the ski for about 10 minutes varying throttle to warm up the engine and then I recorded AFRs with my MTX-L gauge. About an hour later I rechecked AFRs and got the same results.

    Idle: 10.8
    2000: 12.1
    2500:13.0-13.2
    3000: 13.9
    4000: 12.8-13.1
    5000: 12.4-12.6
    6000: 12.3-12.5
    7000: 12.0
    7730 (wot): 11.8-12.1 (mostly 11.9)
Wow, I had a feeling that the factory idle mixture was rich as hell. After you update the ECU, the idle is much rougher, but it is also at a more reasonable mixture of about 13:1. At WOT around 8650 rpm it will be about the exact same range as your 7730 values (11.7 - 12.2), which is safe.
Ya I was suprised at the idle too with how rich it is. But I will say I was very happy with the wot AFR which was right around 12. I had read another thread where people were getting wot AFRs of 10.x.

Yeah, the stock idle is real rich, but for some reason these motors don't like a leaner mix at idle. Like Surfrider mentioned, the idle gets rough & will stumble & sometimes even stall out when it's leaned up, at least when running it on the trailer, especially when the motor is cold. My R2 flash had a leaner idle, & I hated it. It sent me scrambling to turn off the hose a few times while flushing because the motor cut out on me. When I upgraded to the R3, that flash had a idle AFR closer to what it was stock. I'm not sure if R&D is tuning them all richer now or if it was just mine because I complained about it running rough. It ran fine in the water with a leaner idle though...only had problems with it while running it on the trailer.

I wouldn't think it would need to be so rich, based on the tuning I have done on cars, but I could be wrong. Would love to see something like HPTuners for these machines.

ok, so if i add R1 & C1 plus Riva IC(IC is intercooler right?) i will do a 74mph? that's all i will need? that's what i have on my ski ;pump seal kit,ff exhaust, intake grate soon power filter and intake manifold upgrade.

What speeds/ rpms were you seeing the stock IC? and what prop.
Unfortunately I can't quite remember as it was almost 2 years ago. I believe the R1's RPM limit was about 8300 RPM and I just used the stock prop, as is, for that. If I remember correctly with the C1 wheel & R1, the stock prop was fine as it was. I believe that "stock" was about 67 mph, with R1 & C1 was about 71 and then with Riva IC went to 74. I did change to a Skat, but also changed to an R2 tune with that.

I would def not waste the money on a r1 or r2 go straight to a r3 and don't look back like mike said

    Afr is air fuel ratio
rrfpr is rising rate fuel pressure regulator
