Canadian PWC regulations, Very interesting!!!
I was reading up on the regulations found here http://www.tc.gc.ca/marinesafety/deb...t/size/pwc.htm and it says at the bottom
The equipment listed in 5, 6 and 7 is not mandatory if all people on the PWC are wearing a Canadian approved flotation device of the appropriate size.
1. does this mean its not the law to wear a pfd on a PWC?
2. this means i dont need to carry a stupid paddel

I asked the very same question as well and K447 addressed it in another thread.

I carry the bailer and extinguisher.
No paddle.
I still believe you have to wear a PFD.

About 2 weeks ago, when the HOT weather hit and everyone was out on the water, we were all paid a courtesy visit from the coast guard and they offered an inspection of the safety equipment and to see if you were up to code.
On a PWC, you don't need to wear the PFD or lifejacket, but it has to be on board.
- You also need the buoyant heaving line of 15m
- A watertight flashlight or 3 flares
- A whistle
The optional equipment is (only if you are wearing a PFD):
- Manual propelling device or anchor
- A bailer or a manual water pump
- Fire extinguisher (5BC)
The thing that gets me is you don't need to wear the PFD.. but if you hit a rock or branch and go flying off, you won't have time to reach down and grab it. If you ask me, people that don't wear a PFD won't have any tan lines, but they're just asking to be the winner of a Darwin award.

I will wear mine regardless.
It wouldnt feel right not to wear one, just like not wearing a helmet when riding one of my bikes.

You got a Bill of sale, or a receipt.
Make a photocopy of that, laminate it.
You might also have the Service Canada (Transport Canada) Pleasure Craft Licence document that assigns the hull License number (the numbers that go on the bow) to your HIN. It says 'Important document, do not lose'
