FXHO lost power- help
05 fxho-- 300 hrs
Started acting up- surging- then poor performance-
Slow out of hole- top speed 40 ish
Put in new plugs-- better- top speed 47- not as rough.
Checked compression-
#2,#3,#4- all 180#
#1- 110#
put oil in cylinder- Compression up yo 200#
Then 180#
Put in more new plugs- Ran great 15 min-- got to 57mph
Then started surging again?
Stuck rings #1?
Just changed oil 10 hrs ago.
Is it safe to keep riding and trying oyher things?
Fuel injestor cleaner in tank?
oil additive for stuck ring?
It did have a smell riding behind it before I changed plugs! (don't know about now)
Any ideas or others with similar symptoms?
Thanks

How is the air filter? Oil can clog the OEM paper element but it will still visually look ok. Take the air filter out and try it again and see how it goes.

thanks
did that- it is clean-
even ran without- no change
it seems to be a cylinder- ring- problem9compression)'
will try some oil additive and injector cleaner--
do not see how that could HURT?

unfortunately a stuck ring is only diagnosible by tearing the engine down. might also be the cylinder washed out. A slight hone and new rings might fix the problem if the piston to wall clearance is within spec.

Did you check/adjust the valves? How much oil does it burn per tank?

really not using a noticable amount of oil.
Does have funky smell when rididn behind.
Put on a can of "oil additive" and Fuel injector cleaner in tank-
ran 1/4 tank so far- no help!

Had a VX110 a month ago that from what we guess is had a sticky valve and the owner revved it on the trailer. Normally not a problem but the valve keeper almost didn't. The way we found it was one of the valves had no clearance on the cam. The rest were in spec. Compression was only a little low and the cylinder was misfiring at idle. Also have seen a few FX and FX-HO with low compression from stuck rings. Putting oil in the cylinder brought up compression so I would lean twords rings but valves are easy to check and have to take off the valve cover anyway while tearing it down
