    Test the voltage going into the ignition coil on all 3 cylinders.
    The LR should fix your 1 button stop/start issues.
    As long as LR works,leave CDI power on Orange terminal.

    96 should have had a 4 blade impeller. I believe the 97 used a 12/17.
    Somebody put the 12/18 in it and might have lost rpm/top speed.

    I don't recall a torx screw. Allen screw at the ground buss. The important ground wires will have eyelets.
    Take a picture of the electrical box.
