Install the thermostat as is. If the temps are not where you want it, drill one 1/16" hole and retest, and so on! Bypassing the thermostat will increase warmup times, especially in cold water.

Looking in the oem store says otherwise on the bolt configuration.

The bolt head should be on the water side, screwing into an insert with a washer and nut inside the hull. Seems as if the factory misinstalled this item. Your ski should still have warranty...

Are you replacing the stock intake grate, or wanting to change the configuration of the bolt and nut?

I'd like to see a retest after the GP's transome is sealed up properly. Still stock to stock. I consider this "fix" A CORRECTION TO A MANUFACTURES DEFECT!

That engine is headed to the scrape heap. Moot point on what caused the damage.
